Hello all,

The official Android app is now discontinued, so I just released Astro Capture, an unofficial, free and new Android app to capture RAW images from ZWO ASI devices.

You can find the app here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.majinsoft.astrocapture

At this time the app is tested with the ASI178MM and Android 9 only, new features will be added over time.
Feel free to give it a try and let me know what you think and if your configuration works fine.

Cheers

Hello

Thank you for the new app. I tested it on my Samsung Galaxy S6 tablet with Android 14, but the app is stopping unexpected. I have an ASI178MM too with an OTG cable. The old ZWO Asicap app is working fine on the same tablet.

Regards

DeepSkyOne Hi, Android 14 is not supported yet. Hope to update soon the app to work with newer Android releases.

DeepSkyOne An update was released today to add compatibility with Android 13 and many other features, should be fine with Android 14 too.

The app starts now with Android 14. If face the following issues:

With the highest 178MM resolution 2560x1440, the exposure can be set to max. 1 sec. Faster exposure gets an error "Error exposure 3".

The save button says "Image saved", but the image isn't saved to the internal storage even the exposure is greather 1 sec.

      Hello,

Resolutions shown are optimized for USB data transfer. This means that Width x Height should be a multiple of 1024.
The highest sensor resolution is not shown for this reason, but smartphones can't handle it very well anyway. I can add it if you need it for some reason.

The error Exposure 3 (ASI_EXP_FAILED) likely means that your USB bandwidth is saturated, so I would advise to lower the resolution, the bitrate or try another phone. You can use the new Binning option if the field of view is important (released today with v1.3). I guess new cameras have DDR3 memory to workaround this issue.

The Image is saved in the Downloads/AstroCapture folder as a .TIFF image, you may want to install a TIFF viewer to see it on your mobile. On computer most viewer are able to open TIFF files.

What do you mean with exposure greater than 1 sec?

      Thanks for the feedback

A lot of thanks for useful software!
By my first impression with ASI432MM, AsiCap works more stable yet, but I hope very much to get in Astro Capture new functions.

First of all - exact timestamp on every SER frame is needed very much for timing of occultations and some other tasks. The best way is using of GPS module time signals, but on the first stage system time may be used.

I do not see short text log files with FITSes and SERes. If possible, add logs, please.

Hope for further development and improvement of Astro Capture! Thank you again!
