To anyone here that has the ASI Air and the R8:
Have you tried just picking the R6 Mark II in the ASI Air app? It might just work since they have the same sensor.
I am asking since I have the R8 and hope to get an ASI Air.

I wonder if it ZWO are not going to be adding new camera support in anything like the timescales we hope for, whether they could just add a generic 'DLSR Camera' that can be selected that will simply trigger exposures using a cable and potentially also provide some sort of dither support until such time as camera supported over usb?

derekf I think if you use an intervalometer you can use an unsupported DSLR with the ASIAIR. Not sure what camera you would select in the ASIAIR or what model cameras this would work with though. Might be worth looking into.

Otherwise you might need start looking at running a mini-pc that you can install Windows/Linux on to control your gear. Would definitely give you more freedom of choice in terms of supported equipment.

Corsair Thanks for that. yes I can use the ASIAIR for guiding with my R6M3 using an intervalometer, but that's with it set with no camera as you can't select something it can't see. There are a few tricks to use my guide camera temporarily as a main camera, but it's all a bit fiddly.
I should have spent more time looking into whether my Canon was supported before buying the ASIAIR, but having seen the apparent length of time it is taking to add support for other cameras I no longer hold out hope for mine in the short/medium term,
Based on that I'm going to go with a mini-PC with NINA/PHD2 etc. From a ZWO perspective that means that when I do buy a new camera I will now no longer need to look at ZWO (same for accessories) - I would have happy to have done that to stay in the ZWO eco-system, but as I'm going to be using my Canon for a while yet I need to do something else.
