And while we are on this subject of supernovae, here are two more, which are active as we speak:
2024bch, magnitude 13.8, type IIn, located in NGC 3206
2024any, magnitude 14.2, type Ia, located in NGC 1222
The first one is visible all night but only from the northern hemisphere (Dec +56˚ in Ursa Major) while the second one can only be seen from the southern hemisphere (Dec=-3˚) in the second half of the night, when it should be high in the sky. From the northern hemisphere it is only visible immediately after sunset and it is quite low so seeing it might not be easy.
So something for everybody, no matter where you are located. If you manage to catch one please post your images here.
