I'm afraid of overexposing lunar images.
I take 600 images (sometimes 1500 for ridges or domes at terminator), histogram at 80%, gain at 60%. The exposure is set after these parameters.
Hard work for postprocessing contrast management with Registax, Fitswork and PhotoShop, but this reveals weak contrasts on maria along with bright walls of young craters or Mons Pico for example.
12-bit acquisition is not usefull to me for planets / Moon.
