Activation trouble ASIAIR Plus

AM3, ASIAIR Plus. Brand new today! ASIAIR software downloaded ok on my Android tablet. All wire connections as per manual.
Turn on ASIAIR device. Find the Wifi hotspot on my tablet. Select it. No problem. Turn on the ASIAIR app on my tablet. No worries - works great.
Then I am told to activate things. OK. There are two options to do this. First, by QR code. WHAT QR CODE? WHERE DO I FIND IT? (It's not the QR code in the manual - that just takes you to downloading the app which I have already done) Second option is online activation. BUT I'M NOT ONLINE BECAUSE I'M CONNECTED TO THE HOTSPOT. If I re-connect to my home/internet wifi I can't activate because I'm no longer connected to the ASIAIR hotspot.

Catch 22

So I sit staring at inoperative equipment.

I've had a looooong day so maybe I'm missing something...

MrC First, by QR code. WHAT QR CODE?

There are at least two ways:

One is to use this site to get the QR code when given the ASIAIR serial number (the app shows the ASIAIR's serial number):

The other way is to point your iPad's camera at the small QR Code at the bottom of the ASIAIR Plus-- the label that also has the ASIAIR SSID and password. Turn the ASIAIR upside down if you don't see it.

You can connect the ASIAir to your home network via station mode to be able to register online.

The QR code on the ASIAIR does not work - It appears to be damaged- one corner of the sticker is peeled/distorted.

I am, it seems, stuck with online activation... which means I have to ask this.

wvreeven "Station Mode" is something I have never heard of. Can you please supply detailed instructions? Where is this "Station mode"? On my tablet? In the ASIAIR app?

The website you gave (thanks!) tells me this when I put in the serial number:

_First-Activation need to be done online in app:

Download the latest ASIAIR app
Connect the device to the ASIAIR Plus WiFi and open the app
Tap 'Online Activation'，follow prompts to complete_"

It does not give me the QR code. It seems to indicate that I must do the "First Activation" on line.

I will now try the tiny QR on the device. Report soon I will.

And if anyone from ZWO is reading this - why on God's green Earth must we jump through these arcane and ridiculous steps. Especially the command, "YOU MUST ACTIVATE ON LINE!!!!" Stupid.

Why not just type my serial number into a dialog box and go....

Well, it seems that if I put the ASIAIR app on my phone I can connect the phone to the ASIAIR via its hotspot and simultaneously access the internet via my LTE.

Am doing so. Will report when done.

Well my phone has now been just over 15 minutes with the screen message, "Getting authorization code, please wait.."

How long do I have to wait?

I just watched a video of the activation process. It worked like this.
1.connect to ASIAIR wifi

open ASIAIR app on device
tap 'online activation'
three prompts appear on screen. "Connect to the internet", "Get authorization code" and "connect to ASIAIR wifi"
disconnect from ASIAIR wifi and connect to home/internet wifi.
go back to the ASIAIR app
tap "Get authorization code". in a few seconds it turns green and
disconnect from home wifi and reconnect to ASIAIR wifi.
tap 'Activate'.
tap 'confirm'

In my case the app does not give me step 4. The three prompts do not appear. Instead, my app immediately tries to search for the code without giving me a chance to change to my home wi-fi. This is the crux of the problem and I ask that any ZWO people reading this thread please assist me.

I have achieved success. My steps, below.

Tablet connect to ASIAIR wifi hotspot.
Run ASIAIR app on tablet.
Wait for it to initialize etc.
Activation screen comes up. Don't touch anything!
Switch tablet to home wifi/internet.
Re-open ASIAIR app which is running in the background. ""Connect to the internet", "Get authorization code" and "connect to ASIAIR wifi" appear (they didn't before...) Wait only a couple of seconds and these 3 turn green. Don't touch! Don't touch the "Activate" button at the bottom of the screen either.
Switch tablet back to ASIAIR hotspot.
Re-open ASIAIR app, still running in the back ground. Press "Activate".
done.

Why is this not in the ASIAIR manual. There is not one word about activation. Major fail!! Are you listening ZWO????

MrC We included a paper of activation guide in the ASIAIR Plus box.
I will also pass it on to our team and add it to the manual.
