asi220mm mini damaged by usb or bad connector

My asi220mm mini has been working fine for a while now thru a powered usb hub. I just tried connecting it to a usb port on my using the same usb cable. I got a popup message on the pc that I never saw before: unknown usb device needs more power than the port can supply. I unplugged it and restarted the pc. Now that port does not work, and the camera is not recognized by anything -- even using the powered usb hub that it worked with before. So is this possible: damage your camera by plugging it in to one of your PC's usb ports? I am positive that it is not the cable. I don't recall any warning about doing what I did. But I never saw that warning from a PC either.

What computer? Good computers use self-healing fuses in their USB circuitry for just the kind of overload that you mentioned. With those, simply power off the computer for 10 or 15 minutes, and the USB ports would be back working again. You don't strictly need to power the computer off -- removal of the offending USB device would let the fuse cool down and reset itself.

Try the camera with a USB 3 port. They usually can supply 4.5 Watts, while the USB 2 ports are normally rated for only 2.5 watts.

The computer is a Dell xps 8950.
Well, two things also worry me:

1) I did try a different (longer) usb cable earlier (days ago) with this camera on my rig but it didn't work. I'm sure I switched-back and checked that it worked, but I can't be sure. I worry that the cable I tried had a non-standard usb-c connector and broke the camera's connector. And I haven't noticed this until now.

2) moisture got into the camera. My rig got rained on a little bit a few days ago. But these things are pretty water-tight and are exposed to dew a lot anyway.

I'm remembering now what I did. I had a good look at the asi220mm usb connector with a magnifier. It does look like some of the pins are mangled or missing. I remember trying to use a different usb-c cable I had and the camera didn't work with it. Now that I look at that usb-c cable connector I see it only has 16 pins. I bet that mangled the asi220's connector. Now, I hope maybe I can replace the little usb-c connector on the board inside the camera. Anyone every try this?
