ASI120MC time out in USB-Ethernet server

Good day Sam,

To bridge the 5mt limit of an USB cable, I am experimenting with a SILEX SX-DS-4000U2 USB-Ethernet server.

I connect with a HUB my LS6" mount, EOS 1100D Optec derotator to one USB port of the SILEX, and the ASI120MC to the other USB port of the SILEX.

Than with a cat5 cable I go the gig switch and from there to my laptop.

All the connected devices are reported as local devices on my laptop, a sucessfully connected.

The four devices are from the top:

1) canon EOS 1100D DRSL camera

2) Optec dreotator

3) Meade telescope mount

4) Zwo ASI 102MC

if I start the programs that controls the devices 1, 2 or 3 (one by one, or all together) they all works as they should.

If I start the program (fireCapture or PHD2) to control device 4 the ASI120MC (on his own, or together with the other programs) the ASI does not produce any images, FireCapture return the error 'capture failed' and the SX-DS-4000U2 crash.

I have to disconnect the power to get it going again.

All the drivers for everything are up to date and so is all the software.

I tried also an other webcam with this setup and it works ok.

Just before the SILEX crash I get the error that the ASI Timed out.

Can you please advise how could I solve this problem?

its hard to solve from my experience

because ASI120 cameras need very fast response from USB host

and USB-Ethernet server may cannot provide

The USB-Ethernet server has a 800mh processor, the Lan part is 1GB type and the usb connection are type 2 High speed.

I had it working a couple of times, but very unstable, and after a while the system crash...

any idea on how to solve such problem?

I understand that it can be hard and difficult to solve, but is it possible?

we added a "high speed" option for our ASI120 cameras in our newest software

it will run at half speed if you uncheck it

can you tell me which software do you use?

if you use Firecapture you can try like this:

Download http://zwoptical.com/software/ASICamera.dll and http://zwoptical.com/software/ASICam.dll and copy it to the directory of FireCapture to replace the old one.

then there will be a "High Speed" option, you can uncheck this option

and try to turn down "USB Traffic" so the camera will run at a very slow mode

then you check if it runs better?

Thanks for the support, I will try the fix for Firecaptue and report back.

I use the ASI120 with firecapture when imagining, or with PHD2 v2.4.0rc3 (native ASI driver) when guiding, do think that it should be possible to apply this fix to PHD as well?

Hi again Sam,

I have downloaded the two files, and tried out in fire capture directory v2.3 and Firecapture directory v2.4beta.

If I replace both files Firecaptue will not see the ASI120MC.

If I replace only the file ASICam.dll then Firecapture will recognize the ASI, but no Hi speed option is to be found....

this fix is only for Firecapture only

you need update the firecapture 2.4 to newest and then replace the 2 file

Hi Sam, I have tried the fix running firecapture Latest v2.4.07 beta (latest available) and on v2.4.06 beta.

In both versions with the camera (connected directly to the USB2 port ) it does not get recognized after replacing the two files....

UPDATE: I just discovered the the file ASICamera.dll got corrupted while downloading. I have redownloaded the file now 314kb, and now Fr start and recognise the ASI OK.

The problem I have now, is that I cannot locate the H-ispeed setting you mentioned.....

UPDATE nr2 HI-speed setting found. will test soonest and revert.

Good day Sam,

An update here:

I have installed FireCapture v2.4.07 beta and replaced the two files as you said.

It is actually working with some restrictions:

if High speed option is on, or off, wel it does not make any difference if it is working it stay working.

To have it working, I have to disable the software gain.

And it will only work at his native resolution of 1280x970, if I use a ROI it will crash immediately.

I have tried as well to connect to PHD2, and using the native ASI driver It crash.

if I use the WDM driver it will only work if I choose the max resolution 1280x970, for all the smallest resolutions it crash....

any idee why this should happen?

I am not sure why it happen

but I think SX-DS-4000U2 is not very compitable with very high speed video devices
