I am on a trip and in a different time zone and Long/Lat and want to know the proper steps to get all info correct for correct GoTo. I have the following ASIair Plus, ASIair app V "2.2.211.30" on Android Notepad, and RST135 with lastest firmware. I have been inputting the RST135 GPS Long/Lat to ASIasi air when starting the App. Then when I select a visible star like Betelgeuse ASIair reports it is below the horizon. I am very frustrated because the ASIair App keeps going back to my home Long Lat. if I restart the app. And I cannot get my GO TO to work. So appreciate the stsps I need take after moving the telescpe to a new site. Thanks!

To add some info. In ASIair I manually input the Long/Lat then hit Sync to Mount. The Mount Information updates to the Long/Lat I input. But the GoTo does not work (says below horizon). So what are the proper steps?

I am a RST-300 user.
AA app needs permission to fetch right coordinates from your device. Then it will sync the location data with the mount. If your device does not support GPS you may want to connect with your phone first.

Alternatively, enter the data on the first connect screen after startup.

However, a friend of mine used a Samsung tablet when we traveled to Namibia two month ago. He had a similar problem, the mount would just not accept correct location data and fall back to home location. And this was an AM3 mount. To our eyes all the permissions were granted to the app.

The solution here was to re start AA and then connect with the phone first.

I did not have this problem with ios devices.

Stephan

Question: do you have the hand controller that came with the mount?

I'm not sure if this process will work but you can give it a go.

What you could try is - without the ASIAIR connected - after you have setup the mount correctly physically - turn it and the hand controller on.

On the hand controller itself - I'm assuming there's an initial setup process - make sure all the date, time and location settings are correct.

Once the initial setup process is over, turn off the mount and hand controller. Now connect the ASIAIR to everything. Leaving the mount off (and hand controller if it is still connected) but physically connected to the ASIAIR - turn on the ASIAIR.

On your device - check the date, time and location information. Make sure it is correctly showing your current location.

Now connect your device to the ASIAIR Wi-Fi. Start up the ASIAIR App and go through the initial setup screen making sure the details are correct.

Once you are past the initial setup screen and into the App - now power on the mount (and hand controller if you use it).

Now in the ASIAIR App - go to Mount Settings and enable the Mount. Check the Mount Info is correct.

Now begin checking focus is good enough, do your Polar Alignment followed immediately by going to Mount Settings > Go Home (check this does it correctly and, if so, go to Mount Settings > Sync Mount). Then refine focus if you have to by doing a Go To of a bright star followed again by going to Mount Settings > Go Home to see if it does this correctly.

If all is good you can now begin setting up guiding etc etc.

Hi Stephan,
Thank you for your reply. I verified AA has the Location Permission turned on for when the App is used. The problem persists.

Could you clarify the steps? Do you mean start AA on the phone, then connect with the wifi to the AA device? Is the RST turned on already?
It seems there are items involved to be done in a correct order: AA App on phone, AA device, Wifi connection to AA device, RST135 mount. Please clarify the workaround sequence.
Thanks,
Roger

Hi Roger,

I mean this sequence:
-Turn on mount
-Turn on AA
-connect with Phone (not Tablet)

  • check on initial connect screen location data is already correct (should be)
    -enter
-check on mount tab for correct location data

Then you can also use your tablet.

Your Problem might be different, but it is awfully similar of what my friend had. The problem was that AA could not fetch updated data from the tablet due to an unknown reason.

As Corsair said, you can also try using the hand controller( if you have it with you) to use the internal GPS to update the location. But if the problem is the same as that of my friend, it will not help.

Stephan

Stephan,
OK, I think it works now.
Roger

Glad to hear this, did above procedure help or something else?

Hi Stephan,
I wanted to thank you for your spot on advice. On my trip in USA I just switched entirely to my phone entirely becuase ASIair (finally) had me at the correct time and location. So my GoTo's worked. I was at end of a USA trip, and had failed to image anything for several nights and just wanted to image, and not troubleshoot any more.
Have you heard of ZWO recognizing, or trying to fix (or give how to get around) the issue where ASIair will not update the time from a Samsung Galaxy S9 (or other Samsung notpads)? I hope I was doing something wrong, and not uncover any flaw in ASIair.
Roger
