Guiding Issues

Im having the same problem over the last three nights with my new ZWO ASI 120MM, my issue is that I cannot guide using the ST4 on the camera, in PHD the DEC redline falls off at about 20 degrees, guiding via through ST4 ASCOM driver wont work on both of my lap tops, I have double checked polar alignment and have come to the conclusion either the camera, cable or EQ6 board is faulty..

My guiding via eqmod/ascom is superb, the dec and Ra are like two dolphins skimming the sea surface.. :

I really would like to use the ST4 cable directly to the EQ6 mount as its more portable for me using a little netbook..

Any help please :(

you need a multimeter to test the ST4

the direction pin and common pin will connect together if you click the direction manually

Not sure if this will be applicable or help but I tried to get my ASI120MC (USB3), PHD v2 working with ST4 on my Celestron AVX mount. It connected but the guiding was terrible. I tried all sorts of configurations but nothing worked.

Eventually someone suggested I go back to PHD v1 and use ASCOM drivers.

This worked instantly with lovely guiding. Took me 5 months to get decent guiding but at least I have it now : . The issue now is that the weather has been awful so I cannot do any imaging...!

I will try PHD v2 with ASCOM again at some point but just thought I would throw the idea out there for you.

Hi,

Mine specifically relates to my Celestron AVX ASCOM drivers (Though the Celestron ASCOM supports other Celestron mounts as well not just the AVX) so not sure if you need to get one for your particular mount?

Hi, can you explain what you mean? I tried PHD2 and got the same result as 1.

I mean you can select "ZWO ASI camera" in the camera and "on camera" in the mount

Perfect!! Its working wonderfully now that I'm using PHD2 and choosing the right camera!
