The other night, after hours of frustration, I was able to connect my ZWO ASI585MC-Air Wireless Smart Camera and Guider combo unit.
It all fell into place under these settings:
FIRST: My camera IS my Access Point. It has the ASIAIR running on it. Everything is directed through this AP. So, everything is to be connected through this AP. i.e. tablet or phone or PC and WiFi dongle.
Also, it will be a lot easier to change your dongle to Station Mode while it's in its default mode. Resetting the dongle will restore it to factory settings, this puts it into AP mode.
Then use your SynScan pro app to set up Station Mode. Be extra careful doing this and write down every change you've made to the settings.
Make sure your SynScan WiFi dongle is in station mode.
Dongle settings are:
a. I set the dongle SSID to my camera's Access Point name. I renamed my ASIAIR AP to make things easier.
b. I used the same password that I use to access the camera. Which again, is running the ASIAIR.
c. I set dongle to use a static IP address. i.e. 10.0.0.89 for example.
Settings in ASIAIR (in the ASIAIR app)
a. Tap the telescope icon and you should see a drop-down list of mount choices.
b. I selected: EQMOD mount
c. Enter the dongle IP address that was used during station mode setup.
d. Set PORT to 11880 and select UDP - this is what the internet said. It worked for me.
After you've entered everything and the app has accepted the settings, it may be best to power down then power up everything and test.
This gave me a consistent connection every time I powered up the mount.
I can also access the mount in the SynScan Pro app.
Disclaimer: Though these steps did give me access control over my mount through ASIAIR, I don't know if this is the best way to do this. I've read that only one control app should be used to control the mount. During testing, I had both the SynScan Pro app AND the ASIAIR app connected. They both could control the mount but I'm sure there would be conflicts between the 2 running simultaneously. In my case, I'll chose to run the mount only from the ASIAIR app.
This setup allows me to run everything autonomously. No need to rely on my home router for anything.
I hope this helps somebody and please give feedback for any mistakes, issues and tweaks.
