ASI120mc won't work with USB powered hub...

Hi,

I have a permanent pier set up, and my pier is 10 metres from my warm room, if I connect the ASI camera into the 10metre active repeater cable it works perfectly, without any external power.

But if I connect it to my powered USB hub and then into the repeater cable it will not even recognise the camera, I would have though it would have been the other way round, and preferred the powered USB hub, but no, it works better with out the external power of the hub.

Problem is I need it to work with a USB hub so I can connect all my items at the same time, back to,my warm room.

Anybody else had issues with powered hubs, but have it working over a long distance like 10 metres without a powered hub??

It's a well known problem that ZWO cameras don't like hubs, powered or not. At times mine even objects to other USB devices using a hub when it is plugged directly into the computer.

Looks like I have one for sale then.....

As I need to be able to use a powered hub, from my pier which is 10mts away from the warm room

Its not very friendly with eqmod or even its self .i cannot get this camera (zwo120mm) to work reliably .i have an old atik 16ic usb1 that works better than this piece of crap.eqmod stalls or disconnects have changed ports etc but this camera has a mind of its own and i wish i never bought it.

As much as I hate to admit it, I tend to agree, loads of people these days need to use hubs, what can't you get this sorted, it is a real fundamental error on your part.

How does the USB 3.0 version cope with USB hubs??

I got 120MM working with a Win 8.1 tablet on a USB2 hub (keyboard, mouse, camera or two cameras: ASI and Atik). Those problems may indicate that the camera doesn't have a cross-chipset firmware. It works on some chipsets while it makes problems on other or has USB3 compatibility issues.

Sam, would using the slower ASI120MM-compatible.iic / ASI120MC-compatible.iic firmware help with the hub issues and other USB devices issues (see thread http://zwoug.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1912)?

If you can run Linux on that PC/laptop then you could try some debugging. If devices on a hub are underpowered then some error messages will be visible in dmesg. Also bandwidth issues should also be somewhat debuggable. And finally - some USB hubs just don't work correctly with devices more complex than mouse/keyboard/usb flash drive etc. :)

+1. I have a Paramount MyT with onboard USB in addition to a powered, Startech USB hub. My ASI120MM will not work on either one. It will work plugged directly into my laptop. Problem is, my laptop is located 20 feet away, inside my house.

Is there another ASI camera that will work with a powered USB hub?
