ASI 120 Capture Failed messages

Just received a new 120 MC and using with dedicated astro pc -Win 7 Quad core i7 w 8GB ram and 1TB HD. I have been getting a number of Capture Failed messages. I did download the newest software from the website vs using the disc. Unless I have a bad camera, expect others have found ways to avoid these ongoing crashes. The system sticks and wont move until the retry, exit message comes up and you have to relog in?

I have been able to take some AVI videos up to 20 seconds , then the next one could fail? Any thoughts. Thank you, Ron

do you use fire capture?

you have to turn down "USB Traffic" to drop the fps

I am using Fire Capture and reduced the USB traffic to only 17 fps and still get failures?

I also get the "capture failed" message when trying any long exposures with firecapture. I am running a new laptop with i5 processor, 8gb of ram and SSHD. I too have reduced the USB traffic and it makes no difference.

I have noticed that if I reduce the ROI to 640x480 or lower then that seems to cure the problem but as i'm trying to take all sky exposures that's no good.

I have tried with Sharpcap 2.5 and get a different problem. With SC, the exposure length wanders regardless what I set it at. For instance, if i set an exposure length of 8s, it will run at 8s for the first few frame captures and will then randomly change to shorter or longer exposure times, sometimes as high as 27s.

Anyone found a fix for this yet as it appears to be the camera/driver rather than capture software?

I hope you have not yet returned the camera. Have you tried on a different computer and see if it behaves the same way as your computer?

I have ASI120MC-S and works with my Windows 7 desktop and Windows 8.1 laptop using both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. USB 3.0 port is screamingly fast!!!

Sometimes connecting USB cable to camera would not connect because FireCapture won't see the camera so I close FireCapture and disconnect and re-connect camera's USB port would connect the camera to Fireapture. Sometimes it takes two or more times to do this to get FireCapture to see the camera. Once connected, it seems to stay connected.

So, try disconnecting and re-connecting the camera's USB port. Make sure that you close FireCapture and re-open FireCapture each time you re-connect camera's USB port.

Yes I have tried all of that. Are you saying your camera works OK when on max frame size and long exposure?

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "max frame size and long exposure" but my AS120MC-S camera seems to work perfectly at 60 FPS at maximum resolution of 1280x960 using USB 3.0 as long as the exposure is short enough to run at 60 FPS.

I set the exposure to 8 seconds at maximum resolution and seems to be running pretty stable. No issues like the way you reported. I am not getting any failed messages.

I have not tried Sharp Capture software since I am using only FireCapture.

our USB3.0 camera is far stable than USB2.0 cameras

so there is such case may failed to read one frame from the USB2.0 camera when do long exposure

then it will wait until next frame but the camera is still under exposure

that's why 27s exposure happens, but its should be very few such cases
