Banding

Using ZWO120MM with a Coronado SolarMax40 with Firecapture 2.4.x there is some slight diagonal banding in bottom right part of the image. Is there anything I can do about this?

Many thanks for the information! i have since noticed that banding does not occur (or at least is not noticable) when using 640x460.

Micron CMOS sensors are prone to give Newton rings in solar telescopes and even tilting may not help. You can try flat frames and/or let the sun move a bit on the frame so that stacking would even it out. If you used binning to get that 640x460 then maybe that also averages out the artefact.

Binning doesn't make a difference but moving the image away from the area is certainly an option as the banding is only in the bottom right quarter. Turning the camera makes no difference to the banding or its direction. If this is a feature of this type of sensor, I guess my only course will be to try one, or a combination of work arounds. Thanks for helpful suggestions!

I just use PGR Chameleon for Solar and ASI120MM for other.

Nice camera the Chameleon.! :) I have a DMK 21AS which works fine with solar so will stick with that and just use the ZWO for other stuff as, from another post, the banding seems to be a CMOS issue. Thanks for help!

It's a Micron CMOS only issue ;) That's also one of reasons why IMX174 is popular for solar imaging.
