2nd camera to not work properly (ASI174 & ASI224)

Well this is my second ZWO camera to try and get to work on my computers. The first was a ASI174mm that would not work as a USB3.0 camera but worked as a USB2 on my Mac and on my Lenovo laptop. Never got that resolved so it went back.

Now the ASI224 which I just received is recognized by my Mac as a USB 3.0 device but crashes OACapture. And in WinXP or Win7 it isn't recognized as a valid camera in FC and will only work with Amcap and SharpCap. And the maximum frame rate is 16fps.

I've unistalled OACapture and reinstalled with the latest version 5 but the ASI224 causes the program to immediately post an error page. OACapture recognizes my FaceTime camera so the program does work.

As to working in Windows it is apparently totally functional (except for FC) but the frame rate is limited to 16fps at the fastest exposure setting. Haven't had a chance to test it on my Lenovo.

the oacapture is still not ready

we need the author James' help to support the newest camera

this is estimated to be done before august

for support under FC:

you need to download the ASICAMERA.DLL http://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/software/ASICamera.dlland replace the old one

for the 16fps problem, I am sure its recognized as usb2.0 device instead of usb3.0

so the highest speed will be 16fps intend of 65fps

you can have a try on your lenovo

just make sure your usb3.0 host driver is the newest if cannot recognize it as usb3.0 camera

Couldn't get the camera to work at all with Win 7. FC disengages after a few seconds and a black screen is displayed in AMCAP and SharpCap with 0.0 fps.

For WinXP it is working better. It performs best in FC with 64fps and for high speed it has done 150fps. Now for SharpCap the frame rate is 28-29fps. Can't seem to increase that for SharpCap. I don't know how to determine frame rate in AMCAP.

In FC how does one turn off the color? Stopping the debayer mode gives B&W but with crosshatching.

The USB 3.0 driver on my Lenovo recognizes the camera as only USB 2. I haven't found an acceptable driver update.

it must run via USB3.0 if it can reach 64fps

otherwise only around 30fps can be reached via USB2.0

to get the fastest speed you need visit the camera through SDK intead of directshow( such like amcap)

and preview in raw mode instead of RGB24 which is a CPU costing job

and the camera won't care the windows system from our experience

maybe hardware difference
