I appreciate that the RAW file holds the image information that matches what would be held in a FITS file.
The image is only part of the benefits of FITS file format.
As important is the Header information. To manually add this information, as opposed to the speed the system can automatically add, is a time consuming process, but is required if you want to keep a scientifically correct historical record of your imaging. If I take say ten Solar System images a day, this adds at least an hour of manually creating and editing the ten FITS files, (and this is just adding the basic information).
Please, you have all the routines to create and populate the FITS files already for the Deep Sky Imaging, so why not give the option to create FITS files for all imaging?
