Hi Sam and everyone else,
Seeing that I am getting limited advice on some forums on this - thought I would try here - I am looking to upgrade my 120mm mono camera (which is also USB2) and need advice on which way to go.
Whilst I know that everyone is saying the ideal we all want is a mono version of the 224, in the absence of this, what are current users thinking about these cameras for Mars and Jupiter early in 2016?
I would have thought that the mono 174 would be great at capturing blue cloud details on Mars and the blue feastoons on Jupiter, whilst the extra IR and red sensitivity of the 224 would offer opportunities with the red features of Mars and red and IR features of Jupiter.
If I were to go down the path of the 174mm, I am also thinking that I may go with the cooled version and use this for deep sky imaging as well.
If it was your decision, and the criteria was to get the most amount of detail from Mars and Jupiter what would you buy?
I already have a cooled OSC DSLR so attracted to going for a mono sensor BUT getting max details on Jupiter and Mars over the next 2 apparitions is the criteria.
Thoughts and suggestions welcomed!
Clear skies,
John K.
