You can manually do the polar alignment. Stopping during rotation is a common behavior of the AVX mount probably 80-90% of the time, regardless of firmware or software version. I don't think it has anything to do with your firmware.
Disconnect the mount in the settings by sliding the switch to off. Then initiate polar alignment. When you see the dialog about rotation, click skip. Manually rotate about 60 degrees and start the second plate solve. Finish the alignment, manually rotate back to the home position and then reconnect the mount. Do a Quick Align with the HC. Go to preview and move the scope to some clear area of the sky. Plate solve and sync. You should have pretty good GoTo at this point.
