Wondering if anyone could shed some light on these sub photos from a set I was shooting of Betelgeuse. I began the shoot then left my mobile phone for a while. When I returned, there was a very noticeable anomaly in the photo. When I looked in the subfolder, I found two photos (shown in this post) in which the anomaly can be seen. The first, if you look closely, shows the beginning of what I can only describe as a flare. The second photo shows the flare fully developed. The other two photos are from either side of the two with the anomaly.
I would like to hear people's thoughts on what has occurred here. It may just be a lens aberration or something else that can be easily explained by someone with more experience in astrophotography.
NickC773 This is caused by shaking during the shooting process.
It's induced vibration or a tracking error, I'd say the former as the latter is normally more uniform in shape. You can see similar streaking on all the other bright stars if you look.
