Dear all
I have a critical issue with TIFF files created by oacapture.
The last night I had the idea of using the ASI120MM and aocapture, on my Ubuntu computer, to capture a very critical and rare observation (curious? see below). The camera was working in 2x2 binning and 16 bit mode and the image on screen was good.
Since I wanted to avoid the hassle of converting a SER file, I decided to choose the TIFF format. Apparently, this was not a good choice! The correct sequence of TIFF files was created. The problem is, that when I try to open them with a previewer, I don't see the image (but just blocks of white or black).
I tried on different systems (Mac OS, Ubuntu) but is seems that for some reasons the TIFF is flawed.
In order for you to understand the importance of this observation, I specify that the observed event was the emergence of a 8th mag star from behind Venus, which occulted it before.
The event was observable in Europe, and due to the brightness difference Venus-star the observation was very difficult. There are just a couple of examples in the scientific literature concerning stellar occultations by Venus. But I was successful with the ASI120MM camera. It is then so frustrating to have recorded the event but not being able to see the images!!!!
However, I think that the TIFF should contain the information on the images, maybe somewhat scrambled, but they could probably be read by the same procedure that wrote them.
Please help me to recover the data of this - ONCE in a LIFETIME - observation!!
Best regards
Paolo
