ASI120MM-S autoguider setup confusion

Just received my ASI120mm-S that I will be using primarily for autoguiding. My intention is to use PHD2 and a Thin off axis guider on my EdgeHD8. My mount is a Celestron AVX.

My question is, what gets the best results for autoguiding.....just use the ascom asi driver or use the ST-4 setup. I have seen indications on this forum and the ZWO site suggesting each is the best.

I would appreciate any suggestions on how best to proceed, method and settings.

I assume from what I have read that for planetary, firecapture or sharpcap are best.

just download PHD2 and select "ZWO ASI cameras" and "on camera"

no ASCOM needed, PHD2 support ASI cameras natively

Not looking very promising as the camera appears unstable and drops connection frequently in sharpcap, firecaptue and PHD2.

did you use the cable come with the camera?

and please make sure the plugin is not loose

you should hear some sound if it lose connection

Yes I am using the factory cable. All connections are secure. Camera shows installed properly in windows 7. Amcap will not even run long enough for me to adjust any settings, stops responding, then cant even shut down computer properly, have to pull power.

I have heard somebody report such problem before

but it's really few and we cannot repeat in our side

so I suggest you can change another PC and try again
