Level Calibration

Hi, I'm a bit confused. Of o put a spirit level on a level surface in my house, it shows perfect level.
If I put the Seestar on this surface and the level on the Seestar, on the flat part of it, it shows a complete off level. How can I calibrate the Seestar if there is no level part on it. Or is it supposed to do the calibration on the tripod?

V9pe6D5Y I watched a video that recommended placing a level on your Seestar and if it doesn’t show as level (in the levelling section) carefully make some thin shims/wedges from paper and carefully slide them under the relevant points of the Seestar until it registers as level then calibrate.

I've never calibrated my Seestar level in the 8 months I've owned it.

I just use a leveler device as shown in post 2 to level my Seestar every time I start it up.

sthscan It is likely that most Seestars are manufactured "square". That is, all of the molds used to create the plastic frames etc are designed accurately with 90 degree right angles such that the final assembled device will be level when placed on a level surface. However, there is always the possibility that the sensor inside the Seestar is just not quite perfectly aligned with the perfectly "square" assembly of the Seestar. Maybe it got jostled during shipping. Or maybe the user bumped the Seestar hard enough that it is slightly off. In these, possibly rare, cases, the end user will think that the Seestar is level when it is not and will have problems with stacking efficiency, maybe even difficulty finding the sun and deep sky objects from time to time. There is a reason that ZWO created the Level Calibration video tutorial in the App.
If everything is working perfectly out of the box then don't worry about the Level Calibration. But if you are having lots of dropped frames or trouble finding the targets and you have no other explanation for it (wind, high altitude, etc.) then just do the Level Calibration and see if that helps. Just because you friend didn't need to do the Calibration doesn't mean you won't. But do it correctly. It's not rocket science.

Totally agree with all this. I was having difficulty finding Sun and Moon. Yesterday I calibrated on a flat surface. I use a Skywatcher Tripod as I find stooping down low with the Seestar tripod not good for my ageing back. I also use both levelling devices from Zeewar. One caution is that you have to make sure, if your using a non standard tripod that the levelling device sits snuggly and square to facilitate the rotation of the Seestar.

Yesterday after calibrating, setting up on my tripod and levelling, I attempted to locate the sun and it failed. I then then a compass calibration, re checked levelling and it located and centred the sun.
