Station mode confusion

I've been using the Asiair Pro for quite some time now but recently I've started having connection issues, even more than is normal for the Asiair. Last night I had to resort to using an Ethernet cable after the Air continually refused to connect in station mode. This morning I powered up the Air to download my images and it connected first time but it doesn't say it's in station mode and it's connected at 5GHz.

I did see a post from Chen about beam steering mesh routers (or words to that effect) but doesn't station mode need to be enabled?

Franco, can you connect in the 5G mode? I
wonder if my issue is the same. My 256gb Plus won’t connect in Station Mode, though it has for the three months I’ve owned it. It will connect to the ASIAIR 5G signal but if I switch it to the 2.4, it will attempt to find my house wifi and go to station mode. . .and locks up. I can’t find a way to make it forget that network. The 5G mode works great, though it’s not as convenient as Station Mode, so you might find you can work with it more easily than an Ethernet cable. So if you can connect in 5G you can shoot. . .but I’m still hoping someone has a fix for this.

This is what my router (Starlink) says.

It could be because this is a Pro and I had to update the kernel to add the Prolific driver for the SW EQ6 USB.

Of course connecting with 5GHz is fine when in range but Station mode doesn't appear to work at all, it doesn't show available AP's although I see them well enough on the Pi.
