I have an AM5 I purchased 2 years ago. I’ve been using it as my main mount for imaging. Now I am starting to use it in the alt-az mode for visual observations. I am following this procedure.
i) Switch on mount and set it to alt-az as described in the AM5 manual.
ii) Using SkyAtlas app set home position (telescope leveled and pointed north)
iii) Using SkyAtlas app choose star and GOTO it.
iv) Center star in view then sync (I use a reticle eyepiece for this)
v) Repeat for other stars (not sure how many are needed for alignment. I synced on every target after centering))
I am finding that this only works very roughly and the accuracy is inconsistent between targets.
For the scope I’m using a TV-85 and the eyepiece is the TS-Optics 30 mm 2-inch reticle eyepiece.
What am I doing wrong ?
Other questions:
During the rotation to the home position the telescope is supposed to be in a vertical position. In my case the scope is not quite vertical. It’s off by 5-10 degrees. Is this a problem ? If so how do I correct ?
Is there a way to configure the mount so that the telescope is on the east side of the mount in the home position ?
