There are many programs that can receive signals from your camera. In addition to FireCapture and SharpCap you could try and look at SkyStudioPro http://www.skystudiopro.com/http://www.skystudiopro.com/ that may meet your needs.
If you decidedly will look only for fireballs, there are also special programs for it too. Try and search with Google.
How you set exposure and so on. I can not tell you when there are several unknown factors play a role. Experiment by and look at the picture you get on the screen.
