Dso's with asi 120's and 174's

It is really encouraging to see some of the nice dso images being taken with these cams unguided and a think mostly uncooled . I appreciate that people are generally posting capture data concerning exposure times and darks ,biases ect.

I have been teaching myself with my 174mc on a 115mm 6000 series meade ed apo triplet and an avx mount , that I have to say when properly aligned can pull off 120 secs exposures with very tolerable field distortion .

I have been using firecap mostly myself altho sharp cap has its attractions to me as well .

My next major hurdle is to get competent with the stacking software and processing . I am using autostakkert first and registacks to mess with the wavelets .

Any pointers any of you experienced peoples good pass on about this would be greatly appreciated .

It seems we are about to a point where we do not really need a dslr camera to achieve pretty impressive results anymore .

Wavelets aren't usually used for DS imaging - rather curves and other methods of increasing signal visibility. A DSLR may not be any better than good ASI174 or 224, especially those new cooled variants. Guiding and equatorial mount are required for it to just work.

Aha , Thank you ! I was wondering why I did not get very good results adjusting wavelets . There also seems to be a wide variety of techniques people use to achieve subs ie. multiple shorts with higher gain to longer ones with much less . Is there a rule of thumb that addresses this as it applies to dso's .
