Finally the CAA arrived and played around with ASIAIR and have some suggestions for further improvements. This is very important when using the CAA in conjunction with a Filterwheel.
I have already many years experience with rotators and have been through the pitfalls.
- Homing function and user definable home position. I observed that the CAA has an internal sensor which limits the CAA to go beyond. Which is good to prevent twisting the cables.
However the movements of the CAA can be unpredictable with the possibility of the filterwheel moving into the direction of the pier which will result in collision. Furthermore the USB and powercable going to the camera are often catched by the USB connection on the Filterwheel which is not good either.
In my view it would be best to move the Filterwheel in the opposite direction of the pier and then set a home position in ASIAIR. From there the CAA would only have to rotate +-90d to achieve any angle.
This will ensure predictable movements and the user can place the cables easily without risking cable snags or collision with the pier.
Of course this means that the CAA may need to move beyond the sensor. Which will not be a problem with above setup as it will only move +-90d.
Hope this describes the issue and solution well. If needed I can do a video explaining it on the real thing.
Best regards,
Stephan
