You do not need to see the northern sky or Polaris or anything like that, you need clear view of the sky straight up. Use an inclinometer and a compass app (there are free ones on all app stores) to adjust the position of your S50, the LEDs should be facing up, with the Az axis of the S50 pointing north. The telescope will estimate your inclination using the accelerometer and compare it with your latitude, which is also known. Once they are close and you are pointing north press the polar align button. The S50 should twist to point straight up, do the three-point dance, very similar to the Alt/Az horizontal leveling, then tell you by how much to move it in both Alt and Az directions. When you are withing 0.5 degrees you are good to go, just point and use the scope in the usual way. Everything else stays the same, except there will be no field rotation.
