Dear ZWO Support Team,
I am writing to report a mechanical issue with my SeeStar S50 that may lead to hardware damage.
I have installed a third-party dew shield to prevent condensation. However, I noticed that the lens arm automatically closes after a completed imaging plan, even though there is no clear reason for it to do so.
Since my dew shield physically blocks the lens arm from closing, this automatic motion creates resistance, which could damage the motor or internal mechanism of the device. This has now happened three times, and I don’t know how long the SeeStar will withstand that pressure before something breaks.
This issue is especially frustrating because the entire purpose of scheduling or planning an imaging session is to let the telescope operate unattended. If I have to monitor it just to prevent mechanical stress, it defeats the purpose of automation.
At the moment, there is no option in the app to disable this automatic lens arm behavior, which makes it risky to use common accessories like dew shields.
Would it be possible to add a setting in the app/firmware to keep the lens arm open until manually closed?
I love the SeeStar S50, but this issue is becoming a serious concern. I would greatly appreciate any guidance or a future software fix to prevent mechanical damage.
Best regards,
Molt
