I recently purchased an ASIAIR Plus, and have not been able to get it to recognize my Nikon Z5II.
I am using the suggested settings:
M "mode"
Bulb aperture setting
RAW only output
PTP/MTP connection priority
gphoto2 is able to recognize the camera when connected to my local linux server without any custom builds or modifications from the above settings.
The camera also shows that it is connected to a computer via USB on its own display.
Have tested with multiple cables, including the ones provided by Nikon and ZWO; and even the same cable/port combination that worked for my ASI120 mini but the ASIAIR app never shows the nikon available as a main camera: both on the "enter" screen and the "main" screen.
If you need any logs, files, or similar from this specific set of hardware; just let me know what you would need and I'll see what I can do to find that for you.
Edit: I have submitted the required files to the gphoto2 project for adding support on their end; although I'm a little confused as the camera is showing up as a valid ptp device and gphoto's docs say "it should just work" if this is the case.
