MOUNT WITHOUT GPS

I am looking into replacing my current mount which has GPS. Some of the new mounts do not have GPS. How would I set up the ASIAIR+ connected via iPad to get the correct time and location? Is there a way to do this without having to manually enter the time and location for each startup?

Does your iPad have cellular access. If so, it would have built-in GPS. If not you could get a GPS adapter for the iPad.

For the last several iterations, it's my understanding that all iPads have GPS. ASIair will automatically get the information from the tablet.

That is not my understanding. You need cellular to have GPS. I have a friend who recently purchased a Wi-Fi only iPad and it did not have GPS. If you Google around, this is the only answer you will see. If Wi-Fi only, it will rely on your Wi-Fi connection to determine where you are. If you are imaging from your home, that should not be an issue. If you are out in the middle of nowhere, you are out of luck.

OK. I was misinformed then. Too bad Apple is behind the competition on this. It's almost impossible to find an Android device without GPS. Brand names at least.

These msgs got me thinking. I remember using maps on my iPad and how it opens up at my location. So I wondered how and will this work with a non-gps mount. I went into the Settings, Apps, ASIAIR, Location. There is an option to select While Using App. This is a similar path for selecting the MAPS App which shows my location. So I selected NEVER under the MAPS App which when going to MAPS my location is not shown. Thus I am thinking if this will also work with a non-gps mount. If someone can try this on a non-gps mount let us know if it works.

It occurs to me that the AM3 and AM5 don't have GPS. They get everything from the controlling device, like an Android or iOS device.
