I have been experiencing an issue with my S50 around not being able to get the dovetail which came with my S-W
Star Adventurer Latitude EQ Base tightly attached enough to my S50 to avoid slippage during slewing. If the slew torques the mount/Seestar junction enough, it may slip even after several OK slews. This connection is normally made with help from an Allen wrench and, I for one cannot get it tight enough without fear of breaking or stripping something to keep it from slipping eventually.
This problem and some solutions was discussed in a Skygazer's Lounge posting around April 1 of this year, "Seestar
in EQ mode - big issues" One suggestion was putting high friction tape between the round circle with the screw hole
on the Seestar that is where the dovetail plate attaches to the bottom of the Seestar.
I haven't tried it yet because of concern about damaging something when taking them apart but I'm wondering whether you could use a medium strength threadlocker like Permatex blue on the threads from the dovetail into the Seestar. The Permatex says it needs 115 inch pounds of torque to release. Any other suggestions?
Seestar Technical: What torque is the threading/gearing on the bottom of the S50 designed for? Use tape is a
perfectly acceptable answer for me.
