mosaic planning vs. final area covered

I love mosaic mode and enjoy using it very much. However, I feel that in mosaic mode, the area covered is much larger than I expected. As you can see from my recent capture, the first image is a screenshot of the S30 planning screen. I kept the area coverage set to 1X and only tilted slightly. The orange rectangle shows the native area, and the green rectangle shows my intended framing. However, the final area covered in mosaic mode is at least double what I planned.

I understand that the sensor is fixed and can’t adjust its orientation. But on the software side, is it possible to ensure that each frame does not extend so far outside the intended framing?

Mosaic mode always runs the center of the sensor over the borders of the frame. This is because the edges of the sensor tend to be fairly noisy (can see it in the upper corner and edge of your mosaic). Making sure every part of the frame gets covered by the center 2-3 times makes for a cleaner frame. Yes it takes longer, especially with rotation. It'll actually take less time if you don't rotate the frame, but just make it large enough to capture what you want. e.g. I found a 2x mosaic in EQ mode only takes about 30 minutes of exposure time to make one full pass, but 1.5x at 30 degrees rotation took twice as long.
