Since ZWO locked the discussion at https://bbs.zwoastro.com/d/25076-important-notice-pc-based-astroimg-your-one-stop-solution, i will give some feedback here. Locking it immediately speaks for itself, that's 100% ZWO style.
After a quick glimpse at the group feature at the AstroImg website i was thinking "well, good luck with moving everything to a chinese speaking community". Then i figured that english is available at https://www.astroimg.com/group ( in contrast to ZWO providing https://www.astroimg.com/cn/group ). Well, communication is key if your community is mostly speaking/writing english. The english website still has a lot of chinese text i can't read without extra steps like AI translation. This clearly will prevent me from using that website.
Now on to some "offerings" in the original post:
ZWO official staff will help answer your technical questions
Experts & Community Support: In addition to the technical team [snip]
Why on earth are they in another community? They should be here!
More High-Quality Content: AstroImg offers a wealth of premium content shared by experienced users to help you quickly resolve issues.
You must be kidding. I think the experienced users are already here. They are actively discussing your hard- and software and helping other people out by sharing invaluable knowledge.
[Why switch to AstroImg?]
A more unified community experience
A more efficient problem-solving process
A richer set of interactive features
I am quite confused now – does that all mean this forum will be closed sooner or later? Should we move all discussion to AstroImg now? There is a whole lot of invaluable information archived here in this forum – will it be lost forever? Do i need a new account?
I don't think this new community will solve anything for you, ZWO. It's another try to fix something by making it worse. For now you have two communities to support until you close this one and loose a lot of customers that don't switch. The community software here and on AstroImg looks weak. AstroImg looks more polished but still far away from a good community software (see ASIAir group as an example: https://www.astroimg.com/group/15).
I think it would have been smarter to keep the forum here for discussions and provide a public bug-tracker, where your developers and so called "experts" can be reached, for all the issues that are currently cluttered around in multiple threads here on this forum, This would make your (ZWO) life easier by not having to ask the same questions over and over again (like "could you provide logs/videos/etc.").
And why are you, ZWO telling us something about "easy as 1, 2, 3" when everything is made overly complex? 2 forums now (and don't forget FaceBook which some including me refuse to use) where only 1 is actually needed, if it's supported professionally – we don't need more places where to discuss, we need ZWO to listen to us (their customers) and provide the features and quality we expect.
Btw, this "easy as 1, 2, 3" marketing speak has become plain BS. Nothing in the world of astro imaging is easy anymore. It's a quite complex thing. It's about hardware, software, optics/physics, math, mechanics and more. And the software (looking at you, ASIAir) has become more complex as well. Its quality (state of bugs) has become so apparent that it proves, it's far from easy now. There are more stable alternatives out there now.
