I'm fully supporting this feature request. As someone who also knows the struggle of nailing planetary focus, a native ASIAIR solution would be incredible.
Regarding your eye problems, there is a potential workaround you might find useful right now. While it's not a built-in ASIAIR feature, you can use planetary imaging software on a PC that offers focus aid tools like a Bahtinov mask simulator or a FWHM (Full Width at Half Maximum) graph.
The process would be:
Use the ASIAIR for polar alignment and pointing.
Switch to a laptop/PC connected to your camera.
Use a program like FireCapture or SharpCap (which have excellent real-time focus aids) to fine-tune your focus based on the software's numerical readout, not your eyes.
Start your capture.
I've put together a guide that compares these different PC software options and their focus assistance features on this site. It explains how to use the FWHM graph to get a perfect focus without straining your eyes.
It's an extra step, for sure, but it can genuinely solve the immediate problem. That said, I really hope the ZWO team sees this thread and adds proper planetary auto-focus to make the ASIAIR an all-in-one solution!
