I have two mounts... a Celestron CGX-L and an Ioptron CEM40 EC and I have the ZWO 6200MC, 6200MM, 2400MC, 2600MC, 224MC, 174MM (guide) and 290MM (guide) cameras. All of those cameras work with and can recognized both of my mounts in the ASI guiding/image capture software application. This is provided the mounts are plugged into the back of the cameras and NOT directly into either one of the two ASI Air Plus units I also own and use in my imaging sessions. The cameras are then plugged into the ASI Air Plus units via the normal USB 3.0 plug. This is the only way either of my mounts can be recognized by the ASI software application and allow for guiding and imaging procedures with those specific cameras.
I recently purchased a 585MM Duo Air camera and the ASI software will recognize my Celestron CGX-L mount in the ASI software provided the mount is plugged into the back of the 585MM Duo camera via a cord from the handset of the mount (which is then plugged into the mount)... NOT via a cord from the mount directly into the camera. While this is an odd "workaround" of cord use it at leasts allows me to use the camera and mount through the software.
The problem I have encountered is that unfortunately this new 585MM Duo Air model camera will not allow the ASI software to recognize my Ioptron CEM40 EC mount no matter how I attempt to connect the mount. All I get is a "failed to connect." The mount appears in the software screen for the mount section, but it will not allow it to connect.
As per a suggestion from a YouTube owner with an Ioptron CEM40 mount who was experiencing problems getting that model of mount to connect to the software I have attempted to insert a non powered USB hub between the 585MM Duo Air camera and the Ioptron CEM40 EC mount but without the success he achieved. I have also attempted to use an RS-232 serial port cord from the handset of the Ioptron mount to the camera, again with no success. The only other option I have not yet tried is to use a powered USB hub in-between the mount and the camera.
I have updated the software and firmware of all of the involved pieces of equipment and I am running the latest versions of each so this cannot be an "outdated software/firmware" issue.
I have a dozen high speed, shielded cables that work fine in every other application I use them for but none of which will allow a connection between the Ioptron mount and the 585MM Duo Air ruling out any "cord issue."
I have even tried incorporating one of my ASI Air Plus units into the connection system to see if there is any way of getting my Ioptron mount to be recognized by the ASI software... again without success.
I have already written to the ZWO support department about this and while they have acknowledged my issue and are apparently working on a solution to it I have as yet not received anything successful from them so I am writing to the rest of the ZWO users in this forum for help.
Is anyone else experiencing problems getting an Ioptron CEM40 or CEM40 EC mount (or any other Ioptron mount for that matter) to connect to a ZWO 585MM (or 585MC) Duo Air camera? I believe that this problem lays in the software/firmware of this specific new model as the camera encompasses both the functions and software/firmware of both a camera and an ASI Air Plus into one working unit. As I do not experience any failure to connect any of my other cameras to the Ioptron mount via an ASI Air Plus unit I can only assume the problem must lay in the workings of the camera itself. It also seems to be a "ZWO/Ioptron" problem as opposed to a "ZWO every other mount manufacturer problem" as the 585MM Duo Air will recognize my Celestron CGX-L mount so I cannot assume that I got a defective camera. If it recognizes one mount but not another it cannot be a "lemon" camera. The fault lays somewhere in the specifics of that model of camera and how it pertains to the workings of Ioptron mounts... perhaps even just the specific CEM40 EC model of Ioptron mount.
Ioptron has no knowledge of a solution to this problem and so far ZWO/ASI doesn't either.
Any help anyone here in this forum can offer would be appreciated.
