Here are a few Ha images taken with the new camera plus SolarMax 40

The camera controls in FireCapture are quite different to the ones I am familiar with in IC Capture or DSSR when using the DMK41 for Solar work and I think some experimentation is needed to find the best settings. In my first attempt, some images have a quite obvious 'pattern' from the camera but others are perfectly clean; I suspect the gain/shutter-speed balance has a major effect here?
I took a few videos with my DMK41 at the same time to allow me to compare the performance of the two cameras side by side. First impression is that they are pretty close in terms of image quality BUT..... the ASI120 is far more sensitive with a higher frame rate. This means more frames in a given period (about twice what I can get with the DMK41 with both capturing at 1280x960) and faster shutter speeds which should help in poor seeing. When being used with two stacked x2 Barlows and a Herschel Wedge for Whitelight Solar, the DMK41 struggles to reach 1/15th second and the frame rate often drops well below 15fps. With the ASI120 I can use 1/30th second and continue to capture at a frame rate of about 25fps!
Look forward to trying it out on Lunar and Planetary targets.....
