Amp glow issues with ASI174mm cooled

Hi,

I am seriously considering one of the above mentioned cooled cameras, as a dual camera, but am a little concerned about the amp glow issues, could anybody answers the questions below

1. What actually causes AMP glow

2. How do I get rid of it on my images

3. Are you looking at putting this issue right

4. Are these cameras much of a step up from a modified DSLR

I would had bought one by now if it was not for this issue, as it seems like a good all round universal camera, but was really put off when I saw a review which talked about the amp glow issue in detail.

1) Amp glow is due to poor design of the sensor and or camera electronics.

2) It's effect can be reduced by the use of dark frames.

4) Will be more sensitive and lower noise, but smaller field of view.

You could consider the Atik 414ex as an alternative, no amp glow, flatter sensitivity curve with similar peak value & a full 16bit ADC not 12bit in the CMOS, so better dynamic range.

I have already got the 414ex mono, but as it did not do enough research before posting this thread, I thought that the sensor in the ASI174mm camera was a lot bigger, more like a DSLR, but after now researching I have found out it is actually very similar in size to the Atik 414, the 414 being approx 9 x 6.7mm and the ASI174 being 11.34 x 7.13mm

So will stick with what I have got....

The price difference is quite significant. There are ways to reduce amp glow, both mechanically by manufacture and by post processing.
