ASI224MC Amp Glow Issue

I have been using 224mc as a guider cam lately so amp glow has had no impact. But I do plan to use it as an imager later. It is most noticeable at high gains but even at lower gains longer exposures showed similar amp glow.

While amp glow can be treated by blacks and biases, it would be helpful the manufacture reduces it mechanically or by software first. I know other manufactures are either doing so or have resolved the issue, so it can be done.

They already did software updates that make changes to how camera works and it did reduced the amp glow. What QHY was mentioning was some amp glow removal circuit on the camera/sensor so that may be harder to used if not taken into account when making the PCB and electronics.

Yes, I understand your point. Well, I believe that ZWO and QHY people are out of office due to the Chinese holidays. When them go back we will see what can be done. Anyway, as far as I have already read, this amp glow issue is a challenge for very long exposures. In my case, I am wanting to do some exposures with (maximum) 30 seconds and then I think the amp glow is not that a big issue. If it appears, maybe I can remove it during the processing. However, if one is looking for longer exposures, well, it is another game.

If a specific PCB and new components are necessary, it's a bad news !

Amp glow is not a problem for lunar/solar/planetary and short exposure DSO imaging.

Only a real drawback for DSO imaging for few seconds to several minutes. So for

cooled cameras, that will be necessary to fix it. Using ASCOM drivers greatly helps

to reduce 'amp. glow' but I'm more convinced by QHYCCD solution.

There are 2 mains questions for this modification :

- What will be extra-cost ?

- Will this updating decrease or not the frame rate ?

In my ASI178MM the amp glow is really low. In QHY example it's bit lower though. It should not be a problem for most DS images. It's there but also the camera is cheaper than mid range good mono DS cameras

IMX178 and IMX290 are BSI with low amp glow.

But FSI IMX 174 and IMX 185 are the most 'glowy' in comparison !

Amp glow did become an issue last night even for guiding purpose. I had to use longer exposure, instead of less than 1s as usual, I used 2s, amp glow made choosing stars and tracking difficult.

I used darks library too, will redo darks next time to see if it can improve the image.

Sam is there anything in the works for anti-amp glow control?

And if so will you be providing an upgrade service for those cameras already sold?

Any news on this front? Looking to purchase the 224MC, but waiting to see if hardware modifications are in the near future before placing the order. Also can you tell us anything about the "new" camera that is mentioned on your facebook page.
