ASI 224 methods

Hi all, started using my new 224, wondered what settings people were using.

Might be a useful thread if we collate them here.

So far I'm only just scratching the surface and using fire capture latest version , getting about 40 fps at 800 x 600 which may be my laptop I guess. It's usb3 but sata HDD .

Also ... IR filter or not, what you all doing ?

For imaging in visual light you will need IR/UV cut filter. For infrared imaging you will need one of IR-passing filters, depending on needs.

just found this i the software section...

16bit usually won't needed for planetary imaging

"HighSpeed" and "hardware bin" also don't needed

but ROI usually is needed for planetary imaging

so you can save lots of harddisk space

about drop frames, this is because your harddisk is not very fast

it must drop if you capture at full resolution and in RGB24 format

so RAW8 format is good choice

Are there any tutorials for this camera out there?

You don't need special tutorials. For color imaging is just like a normal planetary camera. It can also shoot in infrared with IR-passing filters - either Uranus/Neptune in wide IR or even Jupiter in methane band. That's more advanced.

So, in theory I could unscrew the front of my asi120mc that I'm guiding with and swap it with the 224... Cheapskate I know but I'd get more guidestars possibly and a free IR cut for the 224
