Hello,
a tiny but interesting galaxy shot under a suburban sky.
The imaging session was interrupted by clouds, hence 79 frames only were stacked.
One dark automatically subtracted from each image during acquisition w/ SharpCap.
Gain about 200 and 8-bit mode (I forgot to select 14 bits). Binning 2x.
The galaxy is not often imaged; generally it is shot with 10-in to 20-in telescopes with a focal reducer and a cooled CCD camera.
This image was taken with a 5-in SCT at f/6.3 and an uncooled ASI178MM (the sensor was stable at 6°C). The raw images contains numerous faint stars, more that one can see in the final image, but the processing is basic. Little amp glow in a corner, simply dimmed by increasing contrast. No flat. The camera can do better images.
The structure of the galaxy is real, that's no noise. The arms are atrophied and the core is very understated.
Nice product Sam ! The small Celestron 5 was virtually enlarged.
Nicolas
