In order to get color you have to at some point combine the R,G, and B images. All the software I have uses stars to align images. Since doing RGB planetary imaging is VERY POPULAR--I am finding it exceedingly frustrating that finding out how to combine the images is so difficult.
You can use Photoshop RGB tool and manually align R, G and B channels. Resize (not zoom) images to very large scale will let you do precision manual alignmemt, then size it back down.
I don't use Photoshop. I have Pixinsight, Nebulosity, Registack, Autostakaard2, AIP4WIN, and soon Deepskystacker. Can';t deal with a monthly fee. This is a popular thing to do--RGB of planets using mono cameras. Why am I having so much difficulty finding someone who can tell me how to do it without Photoshop. Amazing.
