Hello ZWO team,
could you consider to make a new BIN2 mode for the color sensor cameras ?
I mean, this BIN2 mode could simply add the 4 pixels values in order to create a kind of "luminance" pixel result.
In that case, we could get a mono picture with the best picture we can have with BIN2 mode.
Many thanks in advance.
Alain
Some software should offer this (like Nebulosity?). This binning isn't hardware so - actual software has to implement it.
Hello Piotr,
unfortunately, i don't have Nebulosity.
Yes, it's only software binning and i think it would be very interesting to have such binning mode.
That's why it would be very gentle from ZWO to study this request !
Well, I don't know if that's a part of ZWO API for the camera. If the capture app decides how it stores data then it has to bin it and if bin2 is available for color camera then it will be the normal bin2 that looses color. If the app saves what API returns then API would have such option. As far as I know there was some binning added to the SDK when 178/185/others showed up cooled.
we already do it with our directshow driver
so you just need to install our newest driver
there is a "mono bin" option for color sensor
we will add this feature to our SDK too
so you can control through SharpCap
Hello Sam,
many thanks for your reply. A mono BIN2 for color sensor in the SDK will be very interesting. That's great.
Anyway, i still do not have made a single shoot of the sky with the ASI178MC because of the weather but the few tests i made daylight with my 50mm 1.4 lens let me think the ASI178MC is a very very interesting camera.
welcome join ASI family ;)
Hello
any news concerning the mono BIN2 for color sensor in the SDK ?
Clear skies.
yes, please try latest version
or just download our SDK and copy ASIcamera2.dll to replace the old one under SharpCap

Many thanks Sam !
I will try it soon.
Have a nice day.
Hello,
i have tested new mono BIN2 mode and it works fine but i am a bit disappointed with the result.
It seems i have much less signal with mono BIN2 then with RGB24 BIN2 mode. Is it normal ?
Does new mono BIN2 add the 4 neighbour potosites ?
No answer. Well, i will try to manage this mono BIN2 myself.
So long
