My ASI 120MM seems to work OK with my Solarmax II 60 with BF15 blocking filter. I get about 90% of the sun's disk, so another ZWO camera with a slightly larger field of view should get the entire sun.
Being a monochrome camera, I don't get any color out of it. So I put my Orion 1.25" 5-position color wheel between the BF15 and camera. I could not bring it to focus. There was not enough in-focus, so adding spacers won't help.
So I'm looking for a monochrome camera that I can bring to focus in that scope using a color filter wheel and still get the entire disk of the sun in the image. I don't want to use a barlow to help me focus, because that would reduce the field of view.
It seems like the new ASI 290MM would have the larger field of view I need, but I have no idea if it will come to focus with the filter wheel in use. Another choice (but more expensive) would be the ASI 174MM.
So my question to the forum...what ZWO monochrome cameras would fit my dual need of bringing it to focus with a filter wheel, and getting the entire disk of the sun, in my Coronado scope?
Or should I be considering a color camera if I want to image the sun in color. Am I correct that a ASI 290MC would give me a larger field of view than my ASI 120MM?
NOTE: I realize that the sun is white, but it's red looking through my H-Alpha scope. And I see many H-Alpha photos online where it's orange. How does that happen? Please excuse my naivety.
