Linux and ZWO USB3 cameras

I've looked at as many threads about Linux on this forum as I can find.

I bought the ASI178MM-COOL because the website says "No driver needed under Mac OSX & Linux, you just needed to run the app support our cameras".

So far I can find no Linux apps support. I'm sure it exists, I just can't find any.

The website lists "Camera control and capture softwares under Linux & Mac". The only app listed which runs on Linux is OaCapture - I can't compile it yet, but I'll keep trying. The others listed are not Linux compatible, they are OSX apps.

I don't have any Microsoft or OSX laptops, just one laptop running Linux with an USB3 port and a large SSD. What capture program do other people use at the moment with a Linux operating system?

Aside of that app there are no other Linux alternatives. I just Windows for astrophotography and Linux to everything else ;)

I'll go buy a Microsoft Windows 10 .iso and a license key. My skills in that area are not exactly current.

so they can use KStars for DSO imaging and Linguider for guiding

Thank you Sam. I did spend an hour reading the Indi/Ekos pages and I can see that in the long term it may well be an ideal solution for capturing imagery with the 3rd party INDI ZWO Optics ASI Driver. If I had been running a Linux version for which there are pre-compiled binaries I would definitely have given it a try but trying to download and install all the dependencies into Slackware by hand was a deterrent.

The release dates of Indi/Ekos are a couple of years old, too, and I didn't realize the software is current for the USB3 cameras and a major system or I might have tried harder. Knowing now that it's the right path, I'll have a go at compiling everything when I have a stable hardware system tested. It's a lot of software just to drive a camera, but I can see that it offers a complete solution to astro-photography and not just the image capture aspect.

The camera is streaming into the Windows 10 install at the moment and I'll go ahead and explore a usable workflow while I have it installed. I have a lot to learn.

I already wrote a software for QHY cameras... Now I bough an ASI178 too, so I'm writing a backend in my software for the ZWO SDK too...

Speaking of which... I am able to open the camera and get frames, but apparently the speed is stuck ad USB 2.0..

IsUSB3Host in ASI_CAMERA_INFO returns always 0, even in the demos provided in the SDK.

But if I run lsusb, the output seems to show SuperSpeed capabilities.

Any help?
