I have an ASI224mc camera that I use for planetary imaging. Recently I used it for a couple hours as an all sky camera, coupled with HandyAVI software. The results were very pleasing. I captured several meteors and even the milky way was very apparent here in some dark skies.

I am currently constructing a weatherproof enclosure to use this camera as an all sky camera when I am not using it for planetary imaging.

My question is this. If I leave the camera mounted in the enclosure pointed skyward during the day, is the sun going to damage the sensor? If so I can always just put it up at night, but it would be nice to leave for sky monitoring during the day until time to be used for planetary.

Any precautions or advice is much appreciated.

It's a spectacular planetary camera and a fine all sky camera.

Thanks,

Randy

no, it won't have problem if you use it as an all sky camera

I had seen some people mention on other sites that direct sunlight could fry a chip, so this is great news if that's not the case.

Is that unique to this chip or does the fish eye lens offer protection.

Thanks Sam

Randy

it won't damager the sensor for such small lens
