I've been using this camera now for 3 months and I have acquired over 100 hours of processed subs, with many more hours of calibration and yet-to-be-processed subs. I love the camera, but one issue has continued to frustrate me until recently, so I thought I would share my experience to hopefully help others avoid hours of grief.
I have posted on numerous forums about this issue. I am using a brand new Windows 10 with native USB3 and USB2 capability, no hubs, SGP for image acquistion, and PHD for guiding. This is from one of my previous posts on Aug. 1 - "Using SGP and a new desktop computer, I am only able to take a few pictures before SGP gets hung up while "downloading" a picture from the ASI 1600MM-C. The camera is plugged directly into a USB3 port using the ZWO-supplied cable. If I plug the camera into a USB2 port on the same computer, SGP runs fine all night. For now, USB2 is adequate, but eventually I would like to get it to work with USB3."
Some nights I could go all night with few problems, other nights were just frustrating. The randomness of the hangups was what made it difficult to analyze. I installed various versions of drivers for all of my hardware and software, tried reconfiguring the internal USB assignments within my computer, tried different computers, tried different camera settings, followed all of the internet posts on this topic, basically anything I could think of to get this excellent camera working reliably. Running it in USB2 and the lower USB traffic setting was OK, but resulted in noticeably slower performance, increased amp glow, and occasional horizontal integrated image bands which I could not eliminate through calibration.
I began to notice a pattern of the camera connection failing after I reoriented the scope to a new object. So last week, as a last resort, I ordered a brand new USB3 Type B cable for connecting the camera to the computer, off of Amazon for $9. I hadn't done it earlier since the ZWO-supplied cable seemed to look good to me.
Well, since using the new cable, my camera has been working perfectly in USB3 with the 90 USB traffic setting for many hours. If you are having similar issues, you should try this cheap fix.
