Sam,
I have been using your camera for 4 months now and I love it. I am seeing some interesting behavior now and I would like you to help me understand it.
I am seeing amp glow in my dark masters for exposure times of 4.9 s or less. I have attached two examples - both 0 gain, one for 1.1 s and one for 5 s. The 1.1 s is the one with the amp glow.
It seems that the amp glow may be related to the 5s switchover exposure length for camera controlled vs. driver controlled exposures. Anything 5 secs and above basically has no amp glow, while 4.9 sec and below has significant amp glow. Of course, my images are stretched per the standard stretch in PI, so its not as bad as it looks. The good news is that it is consistent, so I think it would calibrate out. I usually shoot at much longer exposure times anyway.
The above conclusions are for USB3 at the 0 gain setting. I have done a bunch of master dark frames for all different exposure times, gain settings, and limit settings, all at USB3. The main conclusions are:
- The amp glow is nonexistent at 5 sec, worst at 4.9 sec, and decreases (but is still very noticeable) as the exposure decreases to 0.5 sec. I did not test shorter than 0.5 sec.
- Amp glow shows up most noticeably at 0 gain, less noticeably at 200 gain, and is hard to see at Unity Gain except in the 4-4.9 sec range.
- Different USB Limit settings do not seem to make a difference.
Does this behavior make sense to you, or is there an issue with my camera?
Thanks,
Gary
