Max USB3 cable length?

Hi,

I have ordered a 3m USB 3.0 A/B and hope for stability & speed with my new ASI1600MMC.

The 2m that was provided is too short for the size of the mount and scope, as long as I want to tighten cables carefully along the saddle and so on (to stop any tugs during tracking).

Maybe not so much of an issue if doing only planetary, then you could probably go straightest line and not worry so much.

Anyone tried going longer than a 2m, with a setup that already was perfect? Even 5m?

I have very little experience with fast devices over USB3, but I know that good USB2 cables work well at 3m and in some cases at 5m. (without amplifiers, without extra joints)

Sadly, I couldn't find a 3m silicone-like cable like the original in 2m. The latter is great in cold weather.

USB3.0 device is 10X faster than USB2.0

so it has very strict length requirement

3m usually works, and 5m usually is the longest

It would be great if your shop also had some cables of silicone or otherwise soft material, of varying length.

we donot sell longer cable because it may be not compatible with some system

Yes, 3m (non-hardening) would be perfect for me and I other trying neat cabling with a bigger scope/mount.

For instance, the Hyperstar takes "an extra loop".

A 3 meter USB3.0 cable with an 2 meter USB3.0 extension worked for me (ASI1600MM-cool), so a total of 5 meter. An replacement extension of 1.5 meter (3+1.5=4.5) didn't work so it is dependent on the cable quality and ports. 3 meters is the recommended maximum for USB 3.0.

Since it was still a little short (and not very flexible), I bough a cheap USB3.0 hub so I can go to 2x3 meters savely. So an active hub is the way to go.

Everything seems to be working OK. (I hesitate to say that, because next time I start up I will have problems)

I am running USB3 camera and filter wheel through a 10 m USB3 cable with a powered USB3 Aukey hub at the mount end of the cable. Cable connected to USB3 socket of the laptop. Mount, focuser and ASI120MC guide camera connected to laptop via a 15m USB2 cable utilising a powered USB2 hub.
