I tried to get first light for my new ASI071 this last weekend but was only partially successful. The mini-CD that came with it wouldn't read and the downloaded setup file required that you select the camera and the ASI071 wasn't on the list. The guys at Highpoint Scientific were very helpful and checked one of their CDs to see if they could find and email the driver to me but it turned out that it had the same file that didn't list the 071. After some discussion they suggested I try the driver for the ASI290MC. This, along with ASCOM driver for the camera, worked well enough for me to connect, control the camera and actually take a picture but I have been unable to get live view. I tried 3 different applications-Fire Capture, Sharp Cap and APT. Fire Capture would close as soon as I tried to connect to the camera. Sharp Cap would connect but I only got a white screen (it would turn black if I covered the scope, which is how I knew I was connected). APT gave me the best results. I could turn the cooling off and on and I could take images of a tree line at the park where I was set up) but nothing I did would let me see anything but a gray screen in live view (covering the scope turned it black). So...the following questions:
1. Can anyone direct me to a driver for the ASI071 that they know is correct?
2. Does anyone know how I might get live view from the 071 on APT?
3. Can anyone suggest a software (hopefully not too complex) that will control the 071 and give live view. Preferably this would be someone who has actually done it.
