Large pixel vs Small pixels

I'm real close to pulling the trigger on a cooled cam but, I did my homework . I'm not wanting to oversample or undersample my sensor wells, that being said I prefer to collect photons. I researched on this { I haven't a clue but, would like to learn and it gave me thoughts as to what I need to ask in reference to choosing my camera. Whether to get a lg. or sm. for my f3.9 @ fl800 , Merlin66 suggested the smaller and I'm just corn fused now, I was already to get the 174MM cooled but, now I wonder if the 1600MM cooled would be the "ONE"! I also looked at the zwo camera chart of what the cameras can do. Help!

174 is a smaller sensor so for DS imaging will have smaller field of view. With "lucky imaging" you can also go with higher resolutions generated by smaller pixels.

Lets see if I understand , if I go for the smaller pixel 1600 cooled it would perform for DSO only with a better resolution than the 174MM cooled . The horizontal banding would be less apparent in the 1600 correct?

You would catch wider area with ASI1600 - easier framing of big objects and so on. Random horizontal noise can be visible on CMOS subs but still - you can remove them by image processing if needed. 1600 may have it less, although I don't have direct comparison of that ;)

Very good info. I've dealt with the banding problem with my spc900nc when the gain and gamma are set to 1/2 or above. So , I've got a decision to make ! Thank you
